Namaste friends,
Our next Yoga for Lawyers classes will be held this Thursday, September 3. As the summer winds down, we are looking forward to chilling out and stretching out with you. Class will be held at Kula, our usual spot; we’ll start at 7:15 p.m. and continue for about an hour, or as long as you want. Or until our friends at Kula kick us out. Remember that class is by donation, and all proceeds go to the studio for graciously hosting us.
We hope you can join us! Bring your friends and colleagues, and meet other ‘professional’ yogis for a mellow, relaxing practice. And please help us grow by forwarding this message to friends, colleagues, or anyone else who needs some good karma!
If you have any questions or want to make a request, please send them to yogaforlawyers@gmail.com.
“The life of the law has not been logic; it has been yoga.” Oliver Wendell “Vasisthasana”* Holmes
Namaste friends,
There will be no class this month! If you need a fix in the meantime, please check out the “Beginner Yogi Bonanza” at Kula. They’re offering introductory classes on Monday & Wednesday nights at 5:30, and a FREE 60-minute beginner class on Fridays at 5:30. We love Kula and hope you will, too.
See you in September!
*Holmes was known—but widely ridiculed—for practicing side plank, his favorite asana, in chambers. Clerks speculated he favored the pose because the name “vasisthasana” sounds vaguely like “what the h@!L is this?!” in Yiddish.
Namaste friends,
Our next Yoga for Lawyers classes will be held tomorrow, July 2, and on August 6. Both classes are at Kula, starting and 7:15 p.m. and lasting about an hour. We hope you can join us!
Before you check out for the holiday weekend, please bring your friends and colleagues, and meet other ‘professional’ yogis for a mellow, relaxing practice. Do you ever feel too wrapped up in your career, your stress, or your injuries to enjoy life? Have you forgotten what it was like when your identity wasn’t defined by those things? Yoga can help you declare independence and answer the question “Who Am I?” in new ways.
If you want to supplement your practice between Yoga For Lawyers classes, please check out Kula’s Beginner Yoga Bonanza, with intro classes every Monday and Wednesday evening!
fn* also a snazzy Bjork song.
Attention, lawyerly yogis and yoginis! Our friends at Kula are making some schedule changes, and Yoga for Lawyers is moving from Tuesday to Thursday nights. This means tonight’s class is rescheduled to Thursday, June 4 at 7:15 p.m. Hope to see you all there for a calming practice of gentle, flowing movement and relaxing, deep stretching!
Join us again on Tuesday, May 26 at 7:15 for an hour of moving relaxation and deep stretching. Learn how balancing the yogic concepts of stira and sukha, or steadiness and ease, can help you find repose and calm in life’s stressful situations—on and off the mat.
Class will be held at Kula Community Yoga Studio. There is no charge, but we encourage you to show your appreciation by donating what you can to our generous hosts at Kula.

What is yoga?
Asanas—the physical practice of yoga “postures”—is what most people associate with yoga, but it is only one of eight aspects of yoga. People have practiced yoga for thousands of years, and during that time, the word yoga developed many different meanings and interpretations. One of these is “to come together” or “to yoke,” underscoring the union of body and mind, the union of movement and breath. The more we progress, the greater our awareness becomes.
Another meaning of yoga is “to attain what was previously unattainable.” At Yoga For Lawyers, we believe yoga is inherently therapeutic.
What kind of yoga do you teach?
Class is a gentle combination of simple pranayama, or breathing exercises, and traditional Hatha yoga asanas, or postures. Moving gently from one posture to the next helps us to develop a deeper awareness of how we carry our bodies in space, and where we hold tension, so we can release and relax—in challenging postures on and off the mat.
All levels are welcome, but class is geared towards absolute beginners who are new to yoga.
What should I wear?
Please wear comfortable clothing you can move in.
What should I bring?
No special equipment is necessary to practice yoga. You may bring a mat if you have one.
How much does it cost?
There is no cost for class. Yoga For Lawyers encourages students to show their gratitude, if they wish, by making donations to our generous hosts at Kula Community Yoga Studio for sharing their studio space with us.
Join us again on Tuesday, April 21 for a calming, relaxing hour of yoga. Thaw out, stretch out, and get moving again!
April brings warmer days, more sunshine…and the tax man. This month, we’ll explore a special meditation to help cultivate compassion. Compassion is crucial in relationships with the people we care about most, but it’s even more important - and useful - for dealing with the difficult people and relationships that challenge us. Come and experience the powerful tool of compassion meditation.
